Julie Fowlis

Julie Fowlis is a folk singer of some note and fame. She is Scottish and was brought up on the Island of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. She sings many of her songs in Scottish Gaelic, and somehow combines a characteristically rhythmic voice with one that is the musical equivalent of honey; gorgeous to listen to.

She has performed on many stages throughout the land, in particular at ones that I have attended at the Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow in late January early February each year. She has also been a regular part of the Transatlantic Sessions (musical directors: Shetland fiddle maestro Aly Bain and dobro legend Jerry Douglas), in the company of the great and good of the world of roots music, combining the best of Scottish and Irish folk with stateside country, blues and bluegrass.
